OPRV is short for over pressure relief valve, it is used for deflate the air from the scuba diving bcds bladder. overpressure relief valve is critical to creating an overpressure in the protected space by adding the proper, metered resistance to the outgoing airflow. The valve is normally closed and will not open unless the air pressure inside the shelter is slightly greater than the outside air pressure. If the pressure increases, the spring won’t be strong enough to hold the plug in, and the bcd will release air. also ok to manually override the valve by pulling the plug yourself, which is what you are doing when you pull the cord. Like most parts on a BCD, the overpressure valve is an incredibly simple device, the simplicity of this device helps make bcd inspections a fairly easy process, especially when compared to overhauling a regulator.

This is another common part of the buoyancy compensator device, which help to release air from the bcd. They play the exact opposite role of the Inflator. They are also called the Deflators or the over pressure relief valve. There are the manual Deflators that will require you to press a button that is on the hose, which will allow air to flow out of the device. There is a way that you can easily release the air from the device, which is by moving upwards in a vertical position. As you are moving upwards, you will then lift the hose over your head, then push the button to release the air. Most of the bcd will be fitted with a single or more dump valves on them. The size of the bc device will determine the number of dump valves available. You will only need to pull the cord in order to release the air out of the bcd’s bladder. There can be a dump valve that is placed on the shoulder, usually on the left, in order to allow you to pull the cord with your right hand, in case of any emergency. Another sump valve will be placed on the lower part of the bc device. With this valve, you will be able to release the air when you are in an inverted position underwater.
