Home >> signal tube

Signal tubes are described as surface signaling devices which have green or orange fluorescent coloring for easy identification. Most of these tubes are 6 feet tall and can be inflated at the surface using an oral inflator. Just like they have bright fluorescent coloring, the tubes are also made to be 6 feet tall so that they are visible from afar even in choppy waters. Note that some of the tubes are designed so that they can be inflated using free flowing air from the regulator when one is underneath water. With regards to shape, these safety devices take the basic form of a long tube which might bear the words, Diver Below.

the major reason why you should always have a signal tube while diving is safety. They are most commonly used by divers who surface far from the boat or the beach and need to get someone’s help to get back to their boat. Since it is easily identifiable, boaters will locate you using it and consequently, help you get to the shore. Some people might argue that they never need signal tubes because they always land close to the boat; however good you are, it doesn’t hurt to have a resort for the unknown.

Apart from enabling your team know exactly where you are, a signal tube can also be used as extra floatation if the need arises. If you anticipate that you will need your signal tube for floatation at some point, pick one which can double up as a lifting bag. In addition to extra floatation and raising alarm, signal tubes are also used by specializing divers who practice drift diving.

Although some people have signal tubes as part of their diving equipment, they do not know how to use them. It would be very unfortunate if you had the right thing to save you just to find out that you have never used it before and start fumbling. Worse still, this could happen when you have leg cramps and cannot swim no matter what. It is therefore important that you learn how to use your signal tube to avoid being caught up in confusion when you have an emergency.

The durability of a tube depends on its quality. If what you will purchase will be of good quality, it will serve you for years. You should however note that a its longevity will also depend on your care for it. Just like other inflatable devices, you could easily damage your tube if you popped it with a sharp object while it is fully inflated.
